NYSALM State
PAC
A Political
Action Committee for New York State Licensed Midwives
Why Do New
York Midwives need a PAC?
An enormous
number of professional interest groups promote their particular
agendas on both a national and state level. If Licensed Midwives
in New York State want to continue to raise awareness and glean
support for our essential causes, we must be able to compete successfully
for attention.
The NYSALM
State PAC supports elected officials and candidates for public office
who understand and value the needs of mothers and babies, and the
necessity of a strong midwifery profession.
Our goal is
to support and elect pro-midwifery legislators. A donation communicates
to legislators that we acknowledge their hard work. Our support
will be issue based and bi-partisan.
Why is donation
to the NYSALM State PAC essential?
Midwifery is
a small profession with big ambitions. We are competing with other
medical professional organizations in NY State to ensure legislation
that promotes our concerns, and the concerns of the families for
whom we care.
NYSALM monies
CANNOT be used to make political donations.
Who determines
distribution of NYSALM STATE PAC funds?
The NYSALM
State PAC is overseen by a Committee that reports to the NYSALM
Board of Directors. The BOD then approves distribution of funds.
The PAC committee consists of two NYSALM board members and three
non-board member midwives from around the state of New York. This
committee is guided by the advice and council of NYSALM’s
lobbyists – Greenberg Traurig.
How can I help?
Your contribution,
as well as those of your supporting clients, families and friends
will help NYSALM to increase the visibility of the midwifery profession
in New York State. Your contribution will directly aid pro-midwife
and pro-woman candidates who support our issues in government.
For information
on how to make a donation, please email
Jocelyn Hart, LM, Chair of the NYSALM State PAC.
