• Your membership dues allow NYSALM to retain lobbyists, who serve as the eyes, ears, and voice of New York State midwives in the Capitol on a daily basis. Our lobbyists provide a continuous presence in Albany to monitor legislation and regulation changes that may impact midwifery practice or women’s health care

• You are part of a state-wide organization that provides unity and strengthens midwifery practice in New York from Buffalo to Montauk

• You have representative communication with key legislative players who advocate for midwifery-friendly legislation

• You can participate at an Annual Meeting and Lobby Day which allows midwives and midwifery supporters to meet their legislators in person to discuss current legislation and provides CEU credits for midwives

• You are represented at legislative hearings and at meetings with regulatory departments, such as the Department of Insurance, the Department of Health and the Medical Malpractice Taskforce

• You receive the NYSALM newsletter, PUSH, which provides a twice yearly update of what’s happening in the organization and in the legislature and is also distributed to all legislators

• You receive a practice directory of all NYSALM members via email once a year and have access to our website with updated information about our organization

• *New for 2010* You will receive a monthly email to keep members informed about issues in the state that may affect midwifery practice and/or women’s health care and tell you how you can help

• You have access to peers by phone and email for advice and consultation about individual questions and concerns regarding practice issues
