American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM)
With roots dating to 1929, the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) is the oldest women's health care organization in the U.S. ACNM provides research, accredits midwifery education programs, administers and promotes continuing education programs, establishes clinical practice standards, creates liaisons with state and federal agencies and members of Congress. THE MISSION OF ACNM is to promote the health and well-being of women and infants within their families and communities through the development and support of the profession of midwifery as practiced by certified nurse-midwives, and certified midwives. The philosophy inherent in the profession states that nurse-midwives believe every individual has the right to safe, satisfying health care with respect for human dignity and cultural variations.

Bronx Health link: the Perinatal Information Network:
The Perinatal Information Network (PIN), a project of the Bronx Health link, Inc is funded by the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Women's Health. It is one of fifteen state funded programs under the Comprehensive Prenatal Perinatal Services Network contract.

ICEA
The International Childbirth Education Association is an organization of over 6,000 members from 42 countries that unites those who believe in freedom of choice based on knowledge of alternatives in family-centered maternity and newborn care. ICEA offers outstanding professional certification programs, professional training workshops, an annual international convention, and numerous publications to assist the educator in her own development as well as for the enhancement of educational programs for expectant and new parents.

International Cesarean Awareness Network
The International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN) is a nonprofit organization founded by Esther Booth Zorn in 1982. ICAN works to lower the rate of unnecessary cesareans, supports vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), and encourages positive birthing through education and advocacy.

Long Island Midwives

National Perinatal Organization
The National Perinatal Association promotes the health and well being of mothers and infants enriching families, communities and our world.

National Organization of the Mother of Twins
NOMOTC was founded in 1960 for the purpose of promoting the special aspects of child development which relate specifically to multiple birth children.

Our goal is to improve public awareness of the needs of multiple birth children by fostering development of local support groups, enhancing the quality of educational materials available to parents, educators and others and by cooperating with and participating in research projects which involve twins and/or their families.

NYC Midwives - ACNM Region II, Chapter I

New York State Perinatal Association (NYSPA)
The New York State Perinatal Association (NYSPA) is a state-wide alliance of health and human service professionals and consumers concerned with perinatal health issues from preconception through early childhood. NYSPA advocates for optimal perinatal care and parenting and promotes education and research, influences state priorities and encourages a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary approach to maternal and child health.

The Coalition for Improving Maternity Services
The Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS--pronounced "kims") was established in 1996 as a collaborative effort among a broad spectrum of maternity service providers, including midwives, physicians, nurses, childbirth educators, labor support and postpartum doulas, and lactation consultants. its first five years, the work of the coalition has focused on the creation and implementation of the evidence-based Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI) which provides guidelines for identifying and designating "mother-friendly" birth sites including hospitals, birth centers and home-birth services. The initiative outlines ten steps for mother-friendly care and includes a requirement for birth sites to also qualify as "baby-friendly" according to the World Health Organization's guidelines. A consumer version of the Initiative, "Having a Baby? Ten Questions to Ask" is also available.

VBAC
This website provides childbearing women and maternity care professionals access to research-based information, resources, continuing education and support for VBAC* (vaginal birth after cesarean).
