We are the organization that speaks for licensed midwives in New York. The New York State Association of Licensed Midwives (NYSALM) was formed in 1999, to bring together the midwives throughout the state in every type of practice setting. We have created an organization which can speak with one voice to legislators, regulators, to insurers, and to other professionals; about issues which are unique to midwives practicing in New York State under the 1992 Midwifery Practice Act.

Our Mission
• To promote the health and well-being of women and infants through midwifery care
• To facilitate the professional practice of licensed midwives in the State of New York
• To encourage and maintain collegial relationships with healthcare providers, institutions, and organizations

Our Objectives
• To improve statewide communications among licensed midwives
• To remove barriers and improve access to midwifery care
• To affect legislation, regulation and guidelines
• To promote midwifery education, clinical practice and research

• To convene an annual meeting of all midwives in the State of New York for the purpose of education and support
