Dear New York State Licensed Midwife,

The NYSALM State political action committee is now in its fourth year of existence thanks to your support and commitment to the expansion of midwifery care!

Your valuable donations go directly to pro-midwifery candidates running for state office. Because we are a small, streamlined organization, our overhead costs are very minimal.

Every major organization and association, including nurses, nurse practitioners and physicians have PACs. Midwifery may be a small profession, but we are armed with big ambitions. We are competing with these medical professional organizations in NY State to ensure the passage of legislation that promotes our concerns, and the concerns of the families for whom we care. It is essential that our voice be heard. The more donations we receive, the stronger that voice will be.

Because of your financial and advocacy help we were able to pass our Physical Therapy Bill. This bill became law recently and allows Licensed Midwives to directly refer their clients to physical therapy.

Last year, the NYSALM State PAC donated money to the Elliot Spitzer campaign. With Spitzer’s successful election and the democratic shift in New York State government, the time is right to promote midwifery-friendly legislation. We must seize this opportunity, but we need your help to do so.

All NY State midwives are strongly encouraged to make a donation to the NYSALM State PAC in any amount. Friends, family, staff and others who supports midwifery care are also welcome to give.
